Hazel Grace Lancaster, a cancer patient, had no hope in her life. She didn't care if she lived or died because she was done with having to live with cancer. When she went to her support group she met a guy named Augustus Waters. Gus had a type of cancer that ended up making him have to loose his leg. They had become best friends and went to Amsterdam and finally ended up falling in love. They had gone to Amsterdam because they both wanted to meet the author and ask him unanswered questions about the book. The author turned out to be a complete psycho, and a drunk. When they finally were about to leave, Gus ended up telling Hazel that his cancer came back and wasn't well, and of course at the same time, Hazel's cancer wasn't too well either. This had helped and hurt their relationship at the same time. Then, there was a loss which deeply affected one of the characters. The book ends with that character reading a note he sent to the crazy author.
